Gardens that belong to this climate
MadeleinTuin designs and plants landscapes that can survive a Pretoria August — indigenous structure, honest water, and rooms outdoors you will actually use.
Studio
Design for the Highveld, not a catalogue
Based in Pretoria. We plan gardens around frost pockets, clay, thunderstorms and borehole reality. The work is planting-led: trees first, then water, then the small pleasures — a rill, a sitting wall, a path that smells of wild garlic after rain.

What we do
All servicesGarden design
Measured plans, planting palettes and a phased build that matches how you actually live outside.
Planting and indigenous conversion
Beds that earn their water. Indigenous first, with a few well-behaved exotics where they truly earn a place.
Water-wise retrofits
Mulch, zoning, rain capture and plants that do not panic in August.
Courtyards, paths and walls
Stone, brick and timber that hold the planting rather than competing with it.
Water features
Rills, bowls and recycled vessels — moving water without a swimming-pool bill.
Seasonal care plans
What to prune in July, what to leave for the birds, and when to stop watering.

Questions
- Where is MadeleinTuin based?
- Pretoria, South Africa. We design and plant gardens across the City of Tshwane and nearby Highveld suburbs. Exact service suburbs will be confirmed with the contact details you provide.
- Do you only use indigenous plants?
- Indigenous first, especially trees and structural shrubs. A few well-behaved exotics can still earn a place near the house if they do not invade, do not drink the borehole dry, and do not replace a local bird plant.
- Can I get a number online?
- The estimator on this site is a ballpark for conversation, not a quote. A site visit still decides soil, access, and what the house actually needs.
- Do you list other landscapers?
- No. The nursery map is garden centres, indigenous growers and botanic gardens. Competing landscaping firms in Gauteng are not listed.
